What is a QSL card?

A QSL card is a written confirmation that a two-way radio contact took place. Think of it as a postcard: it shows the station's callsign and records the date, time, frequency, and mode of the contact. Amateur radio operators exchange QSL cards as keepsakes and as proof of contact — many operating awards require confirmed contacts, and a QSL card is one accepted form of proof.

If you've made contact with VE7SAR — the club station of Surrey Amateur Radio Communications — we're happy to confirm it with a card. Here's how.

First, send us your card

VE7SAR responds to QSL cards; we don't initiate them. To receive our card, send us yours first, using one of the two methods below.

Option 1: Via the QSL Bureau (free, but slow)

Most cards reach us this way. Send your card through your national outgoing QSL bureau (in Canada, the RAC Outgoing QSL Bureau), addressed to VE7SAR.

Our QSL Manager verifies each contact against our station logs, prepares a confirmation card, and returns it through the RAC Outgoing QSL Bureau. Because bureau shipments are batched to keep postage costs reasonable, expect a wait of many months — sometimes longer — before our card arrives. There is no cost to you beyond your own bureau's fees.

Option 2: Direct mail (fast, small cost)

If you need confirmation quickly — for example, to support an award application — mail your card directly to our QSL Manager at the address above.

Include sufficient cash to cover first-class return postage to your home address. Please make sure the cash cannot be detected from the outside of the envelope. Once your contact is verified against our logs, Shawn will mail our card directly to you.

If no return postage is included, your confirmation will be sent via the RAC Bureau instead (see Option 1).

Electronic confirmations

VE7SAR contest logs are uploaded to ARRL's Logbook of The World (LoTW) and QRZ.com, so contacts can also be confirmed electronically through those services. We do not use eQSL.

A note on contacts with individual members

If you worked a SARC member operating under their own personal callsign (rather than VE7SAR), please QSL with that operator directly — individual members handle their own logging and QSL arrangements.
